Hysteroscopy

Scheduled for Friday afternoon. I call in Thursday afternoon to get the exact time. No food after midnight Thursday, so I'm gonna be REALLY hungry.

Wondering what to expect afterward. How long will I bleed? How much will I hurt and for how long? When we can have Relations again? When can we cycle again?

What questions am I forgetting to ask?

  1. I have had this done before...the bleeding wasnt too bad & either was the pain. Just enough of both to be a pain & make you a bit uncomfortable. Hoping it goes quickly & smoothly for you!

  4. I actually went to work the next day after my procedure. I was tender and just wore a pad due to some light bleeding.

I am going to say something to you that I don't want to freak you out BUT, a part of the reason that I lost our third baby was because of all of the manipulating I had done to my cervix, the hysteroscopy was part of it along with a D&C I had with the twins. I would ask about cerclage and what the likelyhood would be that you would possibly need one when you get pregnant.

Other than that, you should be back to normal in a few days. Wishing you all the best.

  6. I had a hysteroscopy earlier this year, with a couple of polyps removed, and I was also back at work the next day. I had a little bit of spotting afterwards, and my AF showed up a couple of days early after it, but I had no real pain at all.

My clinic likes to do a hysteroscopy on most patients before treatment, so the consultant can make a map of what's going on in there and work out the best place to put the embryos on transfer and the best way to go in - from the results of the hysteroscopy, he even decides whether he wants us to have a full, half-full or empty bladder for the transfer (I was lucky and got to have an empty one).

Some research has also shown that embryos can implant better if the endometrium has been scraped slightly, so cycling fairly soon after a hysteroscopy could even help with implantation.

Good luck - hope all goes well for you on Friday. x
